HOUSTON, Texas – Matt Hedges scored in the first minute of the match to lead FC Dallas to a 1-1 draw versus Houston tonight at BBVA Compass Stadium.

FC Dallas knocked the ball down the pitch on the opening kickoff and earned a corner kick just seconds into the match. Michael Barrios took the kick for FCD, passing short to Santiago Mosquera, who beat Dynamo defender Eric Alexander on the dribble and knocked a left-footed cross to the back post. The FC Dallas captain, Hedges, rose above the crowd to redirect a powerful header past Houston goalkeeper Joe Wills to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the match.

Seven minutes later Houston tied the match, 1-1, when Romell Quioto came free on the left flank and curled a cross in to the area. Making a diagonal run though the area, Dynamo forward Mauro Manotas beat his defender to the pass and nodded a header past FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez.

FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja needed to use one of his three subs in the 26th minute, when Mosquera was forced out of the match with an injury. Tesho Akindele replaced Mosquera up front, pushing Roland Lamah to the left wing.

Lamah, Akindele and Maynor Figueroa combined on a dangerous play on the left flank in the 36th minute. Lamah hit Figueroa with a through ball that complimented the left back’s overlapping run. In turn, Figueroa sent a short pass to the penalty spot for Akindele but Dynamo defender DeMarcus Beasley slid in at the last moment to deny the forward of his third goal of the season.

Akindele slipped by a defender on the right flank in the 58th minute and served a looping cross to the back post. Willis back peddled near the goal line and slapped the ball away from goal but Barrios nearly got it under control and worked it around the far post. Unfortunately for FCD, a Dynamo defender stepped in at the last moment to send the ball over the end line and out for a corner kick.

Maxi Urruti played Barrios into the area in the 60th minute. The midfielder caught up to the pass in the area just before he was tackled to the ground from behind by Adolfo Machado. Referee Chico Grajeda pointed to the spot and Lamah stepped up to take the penalty kick.

On the penalty, Willis dove to his left side in anticipation of Lamah shooting low and to the corner but the FC Dallas midfielder sent the ball straight down the middle. Still moving to his left, Willis kicked out his feet to stop the shot. Lamah had a second chance to put the ball in the back of the net but his first touch was a bit heavy and Willis pounced on the loose ball to keep the score, 1-1.

Manotas looked to have his second of the match in the 62nd minute when Beasley moved up the left side and played a ball to the forward at the back post. Houston celebrated the goal, but after video review, Grajeda ruled that Manotas was in an offsides position.

Lamah had another chance to put FCD up 2-1 in the 72nd minute. Figueroa set up the play with a low cross into the six-yard box. The pass deflected into the space in front of goal but FCD’s No. 20 ripped a shot that slammed off the crossbar and went out for a corner kick.
