BEST OF 2017: Gina's Favorite Stories

Gina's Favorite Stories of 2017 DL

The end of any year is typically a time of reflection. As we look back on some of the more interesting stories we produced for FCDallas.com over the course of 2017, here are some of my personal favorites that made me smile, laugh and think:

The 50th Anniversary of the Dallas Tornado World Tour
It’s hard to capture the ambition and bravado it took for the late Lamar Hunt to assemble a world tour that sent a team of soccer players all over the world to countries including Pakistan, Iran and Burma. The Dallas Tornado’s 1967 World Tour is a fascinating story and we have an outstanding series on it.  Featuring interviews from the men who crossed the globe, amazing pictures and an interactive map detailing exactly where the Tornado travelled, this series offers glimpse of another era that helped launch soccer in Dallas/Fort Worth and, in large part, north America.

Mate Tea Serves as a Taste of Home
It’s considered the unofficial mascot of FC Dallas. Mate tea is popular in the FC Dallas locker room thanks to the heavy Argentine influence on the club. Mauro Diaz and Maxi Urruti treated Jhannet Sanchez to an authentic mate tea experience earlier this season.

It speaks to the international dynamic of our club, one of the most amazing things about being a part of the FC Dallas family.

FC Dallas Team BBQ
Sticking with the food and beverage theme, FC Dallas’ team barbecues are legendary…and delicious. Jhannet Sanchez, again, got the fun assignment showcasing our delicious Argentine barbecues.

Fernando Clavijo 5 Years with FC Dallas
FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo celebrated five years with the club this summer. Carter Baum spoke to Fernando about his unlikely road to shaping the landscape of soccer in MLS.

Victor Ulloa Goes on a Ride Along with the Wylie Fire Department
Victor Ulloa is proof you can go home again and do something incredibly cool. The Wylie, Texas native had the opportunity of a lifetime when he went on a ride along with members of the Wylie Fire Department. He loved every minute of it. So did the Wylie FD!

Jacori Hayes Takes a turn on the Diamond
Finally, because I am all about #DFWSportsLove, we have to share the day in which rookie Jacori Hayes visited Frisco RoughRiders media day. A number of Riders players grew up playing soccer and were thrilled to kick the ball.
