Akindele, Bekker Called Up to Canadian National Team for CONCACAF Gold Cup

2015 Canada Call-ups

FC Dallas forward Tesho Akindele and midfielder Kyle Bekker have been named to the Canadian Men’s National Team roster for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the Canadian Soccer Association announced today. The two become the 21st and 22nd MoneyGram International Call-Ups for FCD in 2015.

Akindele recently made his debut with the Canada in the team’s pair of World Cup qualifying victories earlier this month, scoring a goal and two assists in a home-and-home match-up with Dominica. Bekker has 13 caps with the Canadian National Team, including starting two of the team’s three matches in the 2013 Gold Cup.

Canada’s Gold Cup group play schedule begins on July 8 against El Salvador at StubHub Center in Carson, California. The team will play Jamaica on July 11 in Houston before wrapping up group play on July 14 against Costa Rica in Toronto.

The Canadian Men’s National Team won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2000, but has failed to make it past the group stage in each of the last two tournaments.
