Santiago Mosquera Scores First MLS Goal in 3-1 Defeat to New York City FC

NEW YORK CITY - Santiago Mosquera needed just 10 minutes on Sunday night to make his first trip to New York a memorable one.

After FC Dallas allowed an early goal on the road, the Colombian winger found himself one-on-one with NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson and buried his chance for his first MLS goal in just his third start.

“I’m happy and grateful with God, my teammates and with all the work of the technical staff who give me that confidence and who have taken me step by step,” Mosquera said. “Things have been coming along well and this is the fruition of our daily work.”

“Santiago, I think, had a very good game. He scored his first goal and had a lot of plays where he could have impacted even more,” Oscar Pareja said. “I think he helped us a lot as well just to be able to be dangerous in the second half he was moving to the right and then the left and he created a lot of calls for them. I thought it was a very good game for him.”

The 23-year-old put three shots on goal, created one chance and had a team-high 70 touches during his first 90-minute performance. Mosquera goal wasn’t enough to get Dallas the full three points as the club gave up three to the home side, but he says the club still made progress despite the result.

“I’m happy but sadly the result didn’t follow today but personally I think we worked well and we will get better to better meet our objectives,” Mosquera said. “We can’t say that we are leaving happy because we needed the three points, but for the sake of what we need to fix today we did a good job and now it’s on us to give it our all…We will lift our heads and think about LAFC.”
