Reserves: Colorado

FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas Reserves picked up a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids Reserves tonight at the FC Dallas Stadium Complex. Dallas’ goal was scored by MLS veteran Scott Sealy in the 64th minute.

The teams opened the match with a relatively quiet 21 minutes of play before FC Dallas’ Ian Kalis came forward from his position at left back to lob a dangerous ball into the area. Dallas’ newest signing, forward Matias Jara challenged Colorado’s Scott Palguta for the header and managed to push the center back’s clearance attempt to Ricardo Villar at the top of the box. Villar stuck a first-touch volley at Colorado goalkeeper Steward Ceus, who fought off the attempt and covered the rebound just before Sealy could get to the loose ball.

Colorado’s best scoring chance of the first half came in the 38th minute. Jamie Smith got the ball in Colorado’s attacking third of the field, went by a defender towards the right flank and sent a line-drive pass to Seedy Bah. The forward, who was making his run to the near post, attempted to chip a header over FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz, but had his attempt sail high over the crossbar.

FC Dallas Reserves fired back two minutes later when Bruno Guarda received the ball on the right flank, ran to the end line and floated a ball back into the center of the area for Sealy. The forward got off a strong snap header, but once again Ceus was there to tip the ball wide of goal.

Coming out of halftime, FC Dallas Homegrown player Bryan Leyva ran down a corner kick played over top of a pack of players at the back post. The midfielder faked a cross, went past a defender and lobbed a pass to the far post for Villar. The Brazilian out-jumped his marker but pushed his header a bit too high as the ball slammed off the crossbar and was cleared from danger in the 48th minute.

Colorado countered with a chance in the 56th minute. Shane O’Neil received a pass in the center of the field, dribbled to his left and slid a through ball inside the area to Smith. The forward attempted to pick out the far side-netting with a bending shot, but also had his shot deflect off the crossbar and out of play.

FC Dallas took a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute, when Sealy picked off a back pass from a Rapids defender and dribbled in alone against Ceus. Sealy feinted left before slotting a low shot into the right corner of the net for the eventual game-winning goal.

Colorado pressed for an equalizer but was robbed by Seitz in the 84th minute. Following an FC Dallas foul at the top of the area, Smith hit a bending shot destined for the upper-90. Moving to the left post, Seitz got his fingertips to the ball, tipping it over the crossbar and out for a corner kick.

The match ended six minutes later, 1-0, in favor of FC Dallas Reserves, who improved to 4-2-1 (13 points) on the season. With the loss, Colorado ended its MLS Reserve League schedule with a record of 5-4-1 (16 points). FC Dallas Reserves travel to Chicago to take on the Fire Reserves (3-4-0, 9 points) on Sept. 18.
