FRISCO – FC Dallas (4-1-5) tied Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 2-2, today at Toyota Stadium.

FC Dallas nearly took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of the match when Mauro Diaz knocked the ball out wide for Maxi Urruti. The forward locked onto Kellyn Acosta, who was making a run through the middle of the area, and delivered a cross that hit the midfielder in stride. Acosta tried to beat Vancouver goalkeeper Brian Rowe high to his left side, but the attempt was contested and drifted just over the crossbar.

Vancouver’s Kei Kamara earned a free kick just outside the area in the 29th minute. Felipe took the kick, curling a shot around the left edge of the wall. Fortunately for FCD, Felipe’s attempt skipped just wide of the post to goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer’s left side.

FC Dallas winger Santiago Mosquera answered in the 34th minute, taking a pass from Roland Lamah on the left side, bypassing his marker and getting off a low shot. The near-post attempt forced Rowe to make a diving save to right side to keep the match tied, 0-0.

FC Dallas took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute when Lamah slid the ball out to the flank for right back Reggie Cannon. The soon-to-be 20 year old Homegrown player stepped by a defender towards the middle of the pitch and got off a left-footed shot that curled into the top corner of the net to Rowe’s right side.

Cannon’s goal was the first. It came in the 10thstart of his career. The former FC Dallas Academy player has started every match for FCD this season.

FCD nearly scored again at the start of the second half. Carlos Gruezo recovered the ball deep in Vancouver territory, beat two defenders on the dribble and got off a shot. Unfortunately for Gruezo, the attempt was struck directly at Rowe, who made an easy save to keep it a 1-0 game.

Urruti gave FC Dallas a 2-0 lead with his fifth goal of the season in the 78th minute. Diaz and Mosquera combined to set up the chance for Urruti. Diaz controlled the ball at midfield, took the ball out to the left flank before finding Mosquera in the center of the field. Near the top of the area, the Colombian drew two defenders before putting Urruti in alone against Rowe. The forward hit a hard shot low to the far post with his first touch to beat the goalkeeper.

Vancouver pulled a goal back in the 82ndminute. Substitute Anthony Blondell raced FC Dallas defender Matt Hedges down the left side. The two collided and Hedges attempted to walk the ball over the end line, but Blondell recovered and knocked a shot into the area that caught a piece of defender Maynor Figueroa and ended up in the back of the net, making it 2-1 with eight minutes remaining.

In a last effort, Rowe lobbed a ball into the FC Dallas penalty area and during the fight for the loose ball, referee Ted Unkel ruled that goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer fouled Blondell.

Kei Kamara stepped up to take the penalty kick and sent a shot high to the right side of Maurer. The goalkeeper got a piece of the shot but could not keep it out of the net as the match finished tied, 2-2, a few seconds later.
