FRISCO – It is a very quick turnaround for FC Dallas who hop on a plane to British Columbia after a mid-week Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup win. FC Dallas took down USL's Tulsa Roughnecks FC, 2-1, to advance to the Round of 16.
Now on the cards is the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at 9 p.m.
On The Road Again
FCD packs its bags for another trip to Cascadia after a 2-0 defeat last weekend at the hands of the Portland Timbers. It’s Dallas’ third match in eight days, and just two days removed from facing Tulsa.
This will be the first time in 2017 that these two clubs will face-off, and in recent matches, neither has been able to assert dominance over the other. In the last five matches, there has been just one draw between the two clubs, with each club taking two wins. FC Dallas won the last meeting, 2-0, in Frisco on July 31, 2016.
Former Seattle Sounders man Fredy Montero has made his return to MLS with the Whitecaps. After successful stints in Portugal and China, Montero leads the Whitecaps in scoring this season with five goals and one assist.
The Whitecaps have picked up four wins in their last six matches. Most recently, the Whitecaps downed Atlanta United 3-1 at BC Place. In all competitions, the Whitecaps are 6-3-0 at home in 2017. No easy task ahead for FC Dallas.
Vancouver has been deadly from the set piece this season. Seven of the Whitecaps’ 18 goals have come via the set piece this season - a 39 percent efficiency. Houston and Vancouver are tied for the most in MLS off the dead ball.
