FRISCO - Well, as 2018 comes to an end there are many stories that I was lucky enough to share with y’all and I wanted to share with you my top five in no specific order. Being a part of the FC Dallas family you learn so much from the players, the coaches and the staff. So, here is a glimpse to some of the stories that showcased what this sport is really about; finding a way, caring about one another and enjoying every step of the way.
Mother's Day/Fathers Day
We often know about the players on the field but watching a behind the scenes reunion of Santiago Mosquera and his Mom made it more special as they reunited on Mother Day. It was an emotional morning for both of them as his mother continued to battle cancer.
Not only that but, we were able to celebrate Maxi Urruti’s first father’s day and what it means for him and his family. We often criticize players and forget they have a daily life just like the rest of us. This is a daily reminder that yes, you are right, they are players but they are also husbands, fathers, sons and human beings.
Carlos Alvarado
Carlos Alvarado is the voice for FC Dallas since 1996 and if you ever have the chance to chat with him, I totally recommend it. He has stories about players, coaches and of the FC Dallas team that are very dear to him. He is a big part of the latinx community and has seen the MLS grow throughout the years. I was lucky enough to tell his story both in Spanish and English. A story that showcases various phases throughout his life but most important, his passion for the sport of soccer.
Scott Dymond's Remarkable Impact
For those of us who met Scott Dymond, we knew he always welcomed you with open arms and impacted many of us in different ways. He always went above and beyond as he helped hundreds of young players achieve their college dreams, both on and off the field. As you watch this video you will realize the great impact he had at FC Dallas and although we are sadden by his loss, this video celebrates the amazing person that we remember today. Scott was a leader, a mentor, a teacher, a listening ear for many generations.
Homegrowns Return to Roots
FC Dallas is known for its youth academy and production of its homegrown players. Who doesn’t want to hear a successful story. Well, during preseason we where able to see the integration of some new signings and what it meant for them to be back home. If you want a feel for what the new head coach, Luchi Gonzalez has in stored and how close he is to the development of players. Well re-live their reunion in Never Forgetting Their Roots
Ricardo Pepi's Journey
Who doesn’t like to be a part of something new? For those of us who work in sports, it is very clear that there is no such thing as offseason. However, when you get to see everything come together, you know it is definitely worth it. Ricardo Pepi, who was introduced as North Texas SC’s first player is just 15 years of age. In fact, he had to move to Frisco, Texas at the age of 13. A sacrifice common in the sports world. So, as I was able to tell his story, I saw how humble and hardworking Pepi and his family are. Check out his story when you get the chance.
