All-Star: Three Reasons to Vote for Chris Seitz

All-Star Seitz

This year's MLS All-Star game is set to take place at Avaya Stadium on July 28, where the best players in the MLS will take on English Premier League's Arsenal. You have until July 4th to cast your vote for the eight FC Dallas players who have been nominated for a spot on the team, including goalkeeper Chris Seitz. We could probably list a hundred reasons why you should vote for him, but here's just a few reasons why you should get Seitzy on the All-Star team.

The Brick Wall

He knows how to defend his goal. The man has a career total of 223 saves in regular season play, two of which were in Dallas' 1-1 draw against the Houston Dynamo last week. If you need someone to protect your goal against Arsenal, or any team for that matter, he's the man for the job and he's already tied his career high for shutouts this year, a record he'll surely break!

He reps this city

He's in his sixth season with FC Dallas, so he's been here for a while and he's stuck with us through thick and thin - including everything from last year's Western Conference win to 2011's CONCACAF run and all the matches in between. It's time we got him to the All-Star game, too.

Oh yeah, he's a hero!

He doesn't just save goals -  he saves lives, too. In 2012, after registering to become a bone marrow donor four years earlier, Seitz found out he was a match for a complete stranger who was struggling with leukemia. The procedure involved drilling two holes into his hip bones and extracting the marrow through 64 needles, and for a goalkeeper, this was especially risky business. Not only did he miss a chunk of games and forced Dallas to come up with a replacement for him, but he also dives, jumps and kicks with the same hip bones where the surgery took place, which meant recovery was long and painful. But he did it anyway, and he became the first professional athlete to become a donor while his sport was in season. So his greatest save didn't happen in the net - it happened in a hospital bed and he was named the 2012 MLS Humanitarian of the Year!
