WPSL: FC Dallas wins 4-1 over American Eagles

The FC Dallas team of the Women’s Premier Soccer League kicked off their inaugural season with a 4-1 victory over the American Eagles this past Sunday at the University of Dallas soccer field. It didn’t take long for the first goal in the team’s history to be tallied. Only 95 seconds into the game, Leslie Briggs pressured an Eagle defender into a mistake and then placed a solid shot past the diving 'keeper for the game’s first goal.

FC Dallas scored the eventual game-winner just 13 minutes later when a ball was slotted perfectly into the diagonal run of Brittney Harrison. Harrison scored on a precisely placed shot around the 'keeper to give FC Dallas a 2-0 lead.

In the 35th minute, American Eagle forward Chelsea Palmer scored on a breakaway to give the home team their lone goal of the match, making the score 2-1. FC Dallas quickly answered the Eagles goal four minutes later when Briggs beat her defender on the left flank and served a low-driven ball that found Katelyn Ross at the near post. Ross buried the shot to regain the two-goal lead for her team just before halftime.

FC Dallas was able to score the final goal of the match in the 70th minute on a long ball over the top from Krissy Stoner to Briggs. Briggs once again was able to turn on her defender and found Michelle Young open on the back post where Young was able to bury a header to close out the scoring.

The team will now prepare for its first home match of the season this Tuesday, May 24 against the Ft. Worth Panthers. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. on the Dr. Pink Field at Pizza Hut Park.
