WPSL: FC Dallas shuts out American Eagles SC

After falling to the Fort Worth Panthers 4-2 the night before to end any WPSL playoff hopes, FC Dallas returned to the friendly confines of Dr. Pink Field on Wednesday to host American Eagles SC from Waxahachie.

Before the game, the home team found a surprise waiting in the locker room – each player’s jersey was hanging in her locker with the player’s name freshly strewn across the back.

The team dressed in red, white and blue in honor of the U.S. Women’s National Team – which earned a ticket to the 2011 World Cup Final earlier in the day. And like the USWNT, FC Dallas left the pitch with a victory after shutting out the Eagles 4-0.

Dallas earned its first tally in the 12th minute when defender Brittney Thomas headed in the ball off a corner kick.

The rest of the first half was a game of possession, though FCD nearly scored when the Eagles goalkeeper had trouble gaining a hold of the ball following a save. However, Dallas finished the half with momentum after midfielder Rebecca Mendoza sent a volley over the Eagles ‘keeper.

The game slowed down in the second half, with chances coming few and far between. FCD lengthened the lead in the 59th minute when Krissy Stoner volleyed into the net from the top of the box.

Forward Michelle Young capped the night off by slipping the ball under the Eagles goalkeeper in the 86th minute for the final score of the match.

The win extended FCD’s home unbeaten streak to 4-0. Dallas will next play on Sunday at Dr. Pink Field against Big Sky-South division leader Oklahoma City Alliance.
