WEEK 1 POWER RANKINGS: FC Dallas considered MLS Cup contender by media

Power Rankings

Coming off a successful season and a convincing home opening win with a 2-0 against Philadelphia, the media's Power Rankings around the country are positioning FC Dallas as one of the top teams in the league and an early favorite to win the 2016 MLS Cup.

FC Dallas' power rankings are listed below.

MLSSoccer.com  - 2nd

Dominated an outmatched Philly team, but ended the day with a big worry after Fabian Castillo was stretchered off with an abductor injury. They have the depth to manage without the Colombian in the short term, but if they're going to be the top team in the West they'll need him back soon.

Sports Illustrated - 1st

Oscar Pareja’s men didn’t struggle much to put away Philadelphia, taking a 2-0 win that could have been a lot more lopsided if not for some goalkeeping heroics, but losing Fabián Castillo late could be a big blow.

ESPNFC - 2nd

The 2-0 win over Philadelphia was soured by Fabian Castillo being stretchered off in the closing moments, but the Texan side showed every bit of the quality that has made them MLS Cup favorites this year.

SBI Soccer - 2nd

A solid performance for FC Dallas against a team they should beat. In truth, FC Dallas could have easily by more against a Union side that was forced to hold on for dear life. However, FC Dallas was certainly dealt a loss of their own with the injury to Fabian Castillo, who looks set to miss several weeks of action.

Soccer America - 2nd

Fabian Castillo’s goal in the 21st minute punctuated an opening period during which FCD opened up the Union back line several times, and Max Urruti blasted home the clinching goal of a 2-0 victory after knocking the ball loose for Mauro Diaz to serve into his path. Carlos Gruezo and Maynor Figueroa were solid in their FCD debuts; a strong tackle by Gruezo started the first-goal sequence.
