USSDA PLAYOFFS: U-18s & U-16s stay in first place with group stage wins

FRISCO –– The FC Dallas U-16’s continued their run of dominance at the USSDA Playoffs Friday afternoon with a convincing 4-0 victory over the Chicago Magic.

It took over a half hour for Dallas to find the net, but once they did, three goals followed in the next 47 minutes. Jommar Reyes opened the scoring thanks to an impressive cross by Jacob Goyen from the right side that found Reyes at the far post. The midfielder got enough power on his header to send it to the far corner of the net and in.


Just six minutes later, Goyen was again starting the scoring chance with a cross from his right side to the left of the eighteen where Jesus Ferriera who headed the ball towards the middle of the box. Awaiting the ball was forward Aldo Quevedo who used a prolific bicycle kick to send the ball into the net to give Dallas a 2-0 halftime advantage.



Dallas struck twice in the final ten minutes to ice the game, starting with Bryan Reynolds, who put away a loose ball in the Magic box. Just moments before the final whistle, Manuel Molina capitalized on a loose ball in the box that wasn’t cleared after the Chicago goalkeeper parried away a shot. Molina powerfully struck the ball into the right of the net to give Dallas it’s fourth and final goal.

The U-16s will finish off group play Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. against Carolina Railhawks on field six and will win their group and advance to the national quarterfinals with anything better than a four-goal or more loss.


U-18's hold on to stay perfect in group

The FC Dallas U-18's rolled to another victory Friday night with a 3-2 win over D.C. United in their second USSDA playoff game of the week.


Dallas controlled the ball and speed of the game during much of the first half and got an early edge in the 14th minute thanks to Reggie Cannon, who managed to slip the ball underneath D.C.'s keeper to score the first goal. Paxton Pomykal followed in the 30th minute with an effortless shot fired straight into the net to put Dallas up 2-0, and not even ten minutes later, Weston McKinnie latched onto a long ball and dribbled it past the goal line for a solid 3-0 lead heading into the half.


Dallas goalkeeper Ben Hale managed to save several shots in the game until the 62nd minute, when D.C. chipped away at Dallas' lead by slipping a free kick in the far post for a goal, bringing the score to 3-1. D.C. scored again on a set piece with just minutes to go, but Dallas held on to their slim lead to finish the game 3-2.


The win puts the U-18's at the top of their group with six total points and one match to go in the group stages. They're set to take on Orlando City SC on Sunday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. on field six. The U-18s will win their group and advance to the national quarterfinals with a win or draw against Orlando City.
