STANDINGS: FC Dallas Still Tied For Third After Road Win in Toronto

FRISCO - After another week’s worth of games, not much has changed atop the standings in the Western Conference with FC Dallas still in the thick of it all.

Dallas was able to take down Toronto FC 1-0 on the road behind the lone goal scored by Maxi Urruti. Jesse Gonzalez featured in goal for Dallas and posted nine saves from Toronto’s 23 total shots.

The win meant Dallas would keep pace with the Portland Timbers for third place following the latter’s 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rapids. The Timbers extended their winning streak to six games and were led by Samuel Armenteros’ brace on the day.

Only two teams were shifted within the top six of the standings, which saw the Houston Dynamo leapfrog over Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The Dynamo were able to take advantage of Vancouver’s draw with the New England Revolution following a 3-1 victory over New York City FC. The Whitecaps and Revolution played to a 3-3 result in Canada elevating the Dynamo to fifth place in the west.

Dallas is also currently sandwiched between its next two opponents, LA Galaxy and Los Angeles FC. Both teams enter this week with relatively positive results. The Galaxy took all three points against the San Jose Earthquakes in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s absence due to suspension. Romain Alessandrini played the hero for LA, scoring in the 82nd minute to seal the victory in the Cali Clasico.

LAFC were less fortunate than its rival, drawing 1-1 with D.C. United. Diego Rossi opened the scoring for LAFC, but it wouldn’t be enough to earn the win after Darren Mattocks netted the equalizer for United in the 84th minute to split the spoils between the two sides.

The two results kept both teams in their respected places in the west with LAFC in second and LA Galaxy in seventh. Currently at the top of the board, Sporting Kansas City sits at 25 points, just five ahead of FC Dallas. Sporting KC drew with Columbus Crew SC on May 27, giving other teams in the west a chance to gain ground in the standings.
