STORY LINES

Winnin' on the Road
FC Dallas earned its first win away from home over the weekend with an impressive 3-1 win over LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson. The three points were a just reward for coach Nico Estévez who'd seen his team put in a number of strong performances on the road but hadn't managed to get over the line in any of its four previous attempts. Jesús Ferreira was the star of the show as the Homegrown Designated Player added two more goals to propel himself to the top of the MLS gold-scoring charts (nine goals from 11 games). The Galaxy entered the game having conceded just one goal from open play in its first 10 matches (900 minutes) but they were no match for Dallas' front three who put three goals past them before the half-hour mark. A second-half consolation goal from LA's Douglas Costa was the evening's only blemish for FCD who used the three points to leapfrog Austin FC into second place in the Western Conference. Dallas will have a chance to fight for first place with another away match, this time against cellar dwellers Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Wednesday.

Next Man Up
FC Dallas will be without key contributors in goalkeeper Maarten Paes, center back José Martínez and winger Alan Velasco for the second straight game as the trio are still in MLS's Health and Safety protocols. While all three are typically starters, Dallas handled their absences with aplomb against LA Galaxy as Jimmy Maurer, Nkosi Tafari and Jáder Obrian stepped up and filled their shoes without any perceptible dropoff. The three will likely be called upon again in Vancouver, a game which they will hope will further bolster their starting credentials.

The Whitecaps
The Vancouver Whitecaps currently reside in last place in the West with eight points from 10 games (2-6-2). But that doesn't mean they can be taken lightly. The 'Caps have only lost once at BC Place and both of their wins have come at home as well. And, after a three-game losing streak, Vancouver has picked up four points from their last two games with a 1-0 win over Toronto FC followed by a wild 3-3 draw with San Jose Earthquakes. Canadian international forward Lucas Cavallini leads Vancouver in both goals and assists with two of each and he'll keep FCD's center back pairing busy for much of the night, assuming he starts.
