Story Lines
Something to Build on: After more than a month, FC Dallas has a positive result to build on. The club emerged Wednesday from a four-game losing streak (tied for the longest in club history) with a back-and-forth 2-2 draw away to the San Jose Earthquakes. While it wasn't all three points, the tie at least prevented Dallas from setting an unwanted all-time losing record and once again proved the team's never-say-die mentality. Now, Eric Quill's men will need build on the road point with a three-game home stand, starting with Saturday's matchup against 14th-place St. Louis CITY SC.
Pass to Musa: In a season full of unknowns, one of the few constants have been Petar Musa and his goals. The Croatian striker notched another two goals Wednesday night in San Jose to bring his season tally to nine (as well as earning himself a place in MLS's Team of the Week). And he's not just a goal poacher. The 27-year-old was the architect as well as the finisher on Dallas' first goal having played the initial through ball to Patrickson Delgado to create the chance. With four assists this campaign, Musa's playmaking ability is becoming just as important as his goal scoring ability. To put it more simply: Pass the ball to Petar Musa. Good things tend to happen.
St. Louis: It's been tough sledding so far for St. Louis CITY. The club began the season under head coach Olof Mellberg but parted ways after just four months following an 11-game winless run, instead promoting CITY2 head coach David Critchley to the top job on an interim basis. Still, CITY sit in 14th place with just 12 games remaining to save their season. Considering Dallas is just one place and four points ahead of struggling St. Louis, Saturday's match is burgeoning on do-or-die territory in terms of the playoff race for both sides.
