Story Lines
Rest for the Weary: At long last, FC Dallas was able to enjoy some rest. The team is coming off a bye week, its first since the 2025 season began back in February. And it was much needed considering Dallas played eight games in the month of May alone (six MLS and two Open Cup matches). The long streak of back-to-back matches also took a toll: FCD didn't win an MLS game in May, a six-game winless run, and lost star defender Osaze Urhoghide to a muscle injury that'll keep him out a few more weeks. However, with nearly two weeks of rest in their legs, Dallas head to Kansas City refreshed and ready to attack the second half of the 2025 season.
Backline Change Up: Between injuries and suspensions, FC Dallas' backline could look very different this Saturday. Center backs Osaze Urhoghide (injury) and Lalas Abubakar (suspension) are both unavailable, leaving Sebastien Ibeagha as the only fit/available senior CB on the roster. It's the same situation FCD found themselves in during the second half against Philadelphia following Abubakar's 39th-minute red card two weeks ago. Head coach Eric Quill's solution was to shift Marco Farfan from left back to center back, Shaq Moore from right back to left back and Ramiro from midfield to right back. Although three of the back four players were technically playing out of position, the tactic worked as Dallas earned a shutout with 10 men against the highest scoring team in the league. Now faced with a similar situation, Quill may need to run it back or find a place for Nolan Norris who has experience all across the backline.
SKC: Sporting Kansas City sit in 12th place in the West, one place and two points behind FC Dallas. The clubs faced off for the first time this season back in March with Dallas earning a 2-1 comeback win at Toyota Stadium. That game turned out to be Peter Vermes' last game in charge of SKC as he was relieved of his post directly after, ending his 15-year tenure as head coach. Under the leadership of interim coach Kerry Zavagnin, Kansas City have earned four wins from 11 games and have only been held scoreless twice. On the attacking side, Dallas will need to keep a close eye on forward Dejan Joveljić who has scored a team-high 10 goals from just 5.7 Expected Goals.
