STORY LINES

Home Again
FC Dallas returns to the comforts of Toyota Stadium after an eventful two-game road trip to the Pacific Northwest. The trip began with a 1-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders where, despite the result, Dallas played well and outshot the Sounders 15 to 11. It was only a first-half penalty from Nico Lodeiro that condemned FCD to its third away loss of the season. Next up was the Portland Timbers at Providence Park, a venue where Dallas has just one regular-season win. It was a frustrating 90 minutes for Nico Estévez's men as they missed a host a great chances and struck the post through Paul Arriola. Dallas' evening turned nightmarish as the Video Assistant Referee gave Portland a penalty in the 96th minute after Matt Hedges was judged to have handled the ball in the box and substitute Marvin Loría scored the rebound after his initial penalty was saved by Maarten Paes. But the drama was just getting started. With the last chance of the game, FC Dallas stole a point in the 100th minute when Jesús Ferreira's corner was turned into his own net by Diego Chara. Now, Dallas will try to carry that momentum into a home matchup with a San Jose Earthquakes team that's winless in its last five games.

Tricky Matchup
Although the Earthquakes aren't having a good season (they're currently sitting in 13th place and are winless in their last five), this isn't an easy matchup for FC Dallas. For whatever reason, San Jose is a trap team for Dallas. Across different eras and coaching staffs, FCD struggles against the Quakes: They're one of three teams Dallas doesn't have a winning home record against (having played at least four times). And that's not to say that the Earthquakes are typically a really strong team since they've only made the playoffs four times since returning to MLS in 2008. Dallas struggling against SJ is just a fact of MLS life. Still, with the Western Conference perilously tight, Estévez and co. will be desperate to defy history and earn FCD's first win over San Jose since July of 2016.

All-Stars
Forwards Paul Arriola and Jesús Ferreira are back in Dallas after a four-day trip to Minnesota for their maiden MLS All-Star appearances. Ferreira helped the MLS All-Stars to their first MLS Skills Challenge victory over the Liga MX All-Stars Tuesday night. Arriola and Ferreira both featured in MLS's exciting 2-1 win in the full All-Star game the following evening at Minnesota United's Allianz Field. The pair returned to FCD team training Friday morning and are available for Dallas' matchup with the Earthquakes. More on Ferreira and Arriola's All-Star experience HERE.
