Story Lines
Dig Deep: FC Dallas will need to dig deep to reverse its fortunes with a positive result Wednesday night. The club is currently suffering through a four-game losing streak (tied for the longest in franchise history) and has won just once in its last 11 games. Despite the disappointing run, Dallas is still just six points below the playoff line with a game in hand on most teams above it. With over a third of the season left to play, Eric Quill's side is far from a lost cause but it'll need to change the momentum soon to avoid becoming an afterthought in the playoff race. The first opportunity to do so is Wednesday night in San Jose, CA.
Lucho-less: Dallas will take on the Earthquakes without the services of Designated Player Lucho Acosta. The former MLS MVP is suspended for Wednesday's match due yellow card accumulation, having been shown his eighth caution of the season last Saturday. Looking ahead, Wednesday's game will be just the second time this season that Dallas has entered a game without Acosta in the squad (Acosta missed FCD's trip to Seattle due to his first yellow card suspension back in May). To compound the issue, Acosta's direct replacement - Pedrinho - is also unavailable having flown back to Dallas due to personal reasons. With both attacking midfielders out, head coach Eric Quill may need to get creative with his starting lineup.
San Jose: Dallas and San Jose have faced off once already this season with the Earthquakes earning a 4-2 win at Toyota Stadium last month. Led by head coach Bruce Arena, the 'Quakes reside in 8th place in the West with a 7-8-7 record and 42 goals scored, second most in the conference. As Dallas discovered last month, the danger men for San Jose are Chicho Arango and Josef Martínez as the veteran duo has combined for 18 goals and five assists this season. Considering both scored against FCD in June's meeting in Dallas, Eric Quill's team will need to keep a closer eye on them this time around.
