Story Lines
Road Dawgs: It's official. After FC Dallas' stunning 4-3 comeback win at Inter Miami on Sunday, Dallas has now earned the most road points in MLS this season with 12 (3 wins and 3 ties). If FCD can earn a win or draw Saturday in San Diego, they'll become just the fourth MLS team to record a seven-game road unbeaten streak to start a season. The newfound away form is even more impressive considering Dallas only notched one win away from home in all of 2024. Credit must be given to new head coach Eric Quill who's found a formula to consistently earn points on the road, something FCD has struggled with since the departure of Oscar Pareja in 2018. Now, the key will be recreating those marquee performances at home in Toyota Stadium, where Dallas has just one win from three attempts. Before we cross that bridge, though, Quill and co. will look to continue the magic in Southern California with a first-ever matchup against expansion side San Diego FC.
Pedrinho: Head coach Eric Quill may have found himself a new go-to super sub. For the second time this season, Pedrinho came off the bench and changed the game to help FC Dallas earn a result on the road. The 22-year-old Brazilian entered last Sunday's match against Miami in the 58th minute and assisted a goal 10 minutes later with a long ball to Anderson Julio. But he wasn't done. With nine minutes left in regulation, Pedrinho latched onto a pass from Logan Farrington and fired Dallas into a 4-3 lead, completing the club's largest comeback since 2011. Considering Pedrinho performed a similar trick in Colorado in March, it seems he's carving out a crucial role for himself in Quill's squad--one he could reprise this Saturday in San Diego.
San Diego: San Diego FC is enjoying a strong debut season as MLS's 30th club. Led by head coach Mikey Varas (a former FC Dallas assistant and Academy coach), San Diego began the campaign brightly with four wins from their six outings. Since then, however, SDFC have come back down to earth and suffered three losses on the bounce. That hasn't compromised their style of play, though, as Varas' possession-based team sit near the top of various passing charts. Considering their preference for dominating the ball and FC Dallas' counter-attacking style, Saturday's game promises to be a clash of contrasting styles. Tune in at 8:15 p.m. to see which one wins out.
