Story Lines
Back Home: FC Dallas returned home this week after a three-game stretch on the road. It was a fruitful adventure overall as Dallas earned 4 points from a possible 9 after a scoreless draw with Minnesota, a 4-3 win over Inter Miami, and finally a disappointing 5-0 loss at San Diego. While it was a painful defeat last weekend, Dallas seized the opportunity to bounce back three days later with a 3-1 win against AV Alta FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32. Now, FCD has a chance to make it two home wins in a week with a matchup against 11th-place Real Salt Lake, a team they defeated 1-0 on the road back in March.
Returnees: Saturday's game could see some important returns for FC Dallas. Per head coach Eric Quill's press conference after Wednesday's match, forward Petar Musa is fit and available after missing nearly a month with an ankle injury. Despite his time away, Musa is still Dallas' join-leading scorer (along with Lucho Acosta) so the Croatian's return will provide a major boost to FCD's frontline. Another much-anticipated return is that of Paxton Pomykal. The Homegrown midfielder is officially off the injury report and available for selection after missing over a year due to knee surgery. As the longest-serving player on the club's roster (as well as a fan-favorite), Pomykal's imminent season debut promises to be a special moment.
RSL: Real Salt Lake arrives at Toyota Stadium in 11th place in the Western Conference with a 4-7-0 record. It's been an up-and-down start to 2025 for Pablo Mastroeni's team as they haven't earned points in back-to-back games once this year. It's also the second time this season that RSL and Dallas have faced off: FCD earned a 1-0 win in Utah back in March, in a game that saw Salt Lake reduced to 10 men midway through the first half. Dallas also benefited from another factor in that one as RSL was without talisman Diego Luna who was away with the U.S. Men's National Team. With a full lineup and an in-form Luna (6 goals & 2 assists this year) on the field, this rematch promises to be a much sterner test for Dallas.
