STORY LINES

  • Hittin' the Road: FC Dallas will leave the comforts of home for the first time this season on Saturday to take on the Red Bulls in Harrison, New Jersey. It's notoriously difficult to win on the road in MLS but that's the task ahead for Nico Estévez's team. Dallas earned a 4-7-6 record away from home last season, including multi-goal wins at Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy. The big question is whether Estévez will stick with his new 3-4-3 formation used in the first two home games, or if he shifts to something more defensive on the road to try to earn the first shutout of the year. Either way, Dallas will need to be at their best to earn a victory at the home of the Red Bulls, who've begun 2024 with a win and a draw on the road.
  • Musa's off the Mark: Although FC Dallas lost at home last Saturday it wasn't all bad news. Petar Musa, FC Dallas' record signing, made his club debut and marked the occasion in style. It took the 26-year-old Croatian just 46 minutes to score his first FCD goal when he connected with Bernard Kamungo's layoff for a close-range finish. It's exactly the type of goal FCD hoped Musa would score when the club broke its transfer record to sign him from Benfica. In all, the forward had two shots, created two chances, and completed 21 of 27 passes over his first 90 minutes in an FC Dallas jersey. It was a promising debut, no doubt, and one Musa will hope to build on this weekend in New Jersey.
  • Against the Red Bulls: FC Dallas has not had an easy time against the Red Bulls in recent years. Recent decades, really. Dallas hasn't won against NYRB since 2012 when the club defeated them 2-1 in Frisco. Since then, FCD has zero wins, five losses and three draws from eight attempts. There's also Saturday's venue to think about. FC Dallas has never won at Red Bull Arena in league play since it opened in 2010, accumulating a 0-4-3 record. But to be fair, FCD has only played there twice since 2018 - earning draws in 2021 and 2022. Although the omens don't look great, Estévez's team has pulled the rabbit out of the hat on the road on a few occasions over the last two years. There's no reason they can't do it again and get all three points on Saturday night.
