Story Lines

Home Win: After 37 long days, FC Dallas' winless run is finally over. The club broke its five-game winless streak with a dominant 3-0 showing against St. Louis City SC last Saturday. And that wasn't the only streak that was broken. Prior to the game, Dallas had gone winless at home in seven attemps dating all the way back to the club's 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City on March 29. Safe to say, Saturday night's W was much needed. Now with the monkey off their backs, Dallas will look to build on the victory with two more home games: against New York City FC this Friday followed by Portland Timbers on Aug. 9.

New Signings: It's been a busy week for FC Dallas' front office. With MLS's summer transfer window now open, the club has added three new players over the last few days: Forwards Don Deedson and Sam Sarver as well as midfielder Christian Cappis. Deedson, a Haiti international, joins the team from Danish side Odense BK and could be available for Friday's match pending his work visa. Sarver will be more familiar to most, having already played for the club on loan from North Texas SC, FCD's second team, but will now be available to Dallas full time with a first-team contract in hand. Lastly, Dallas welcomes home a former Academy player in the form of box-to-box midfielder Christian Cappis. The Houston native (who previously worked with Eric Quill) played in the FCD Academy in 2017/18 but became a professional in Europe. After seven years in Denmark and Norway, Cappis returns to FC Dallas and will be available for selection for Friday's match.

NYC: New York City sits in 8th place in the Eastern Conference with a 10-8-5 record. As usual, NYC's road form trails their home form, holding a 2-5-5 record on their travels (and Friday's match is the final game of a 4-match road stand). Form wise, NYCFC have hit their stride with five wins in their last 10 games, and have scored at least two goals in all those victories. New York's danger men are undoubtedly Costa Rican forward Alonso Martínez and Austrian Hannes Wolf. Both Martínez and Wolf have scored nine goals apiece while NYC's next top scorer is veteran Maxi Moralez with two. If Dallas can keep a lid on Martínez and Wolf, that'll go a long way to stopping NYCFC's attack.
