Story Lines
Schedule Congestion: FC Dallas is in the midst of the busiest part of its season. Wednesday night's match in Cincinnati is the second back-to-back midweek match meaning, by Saturday, the club will have played five games in just 14 days. The results haven't been kind to Dallas either: The club has registered one win in the last six games, a 3-1 win over AV Alta in the Open Cup, with its last league win coming back in April against Inter Miami. No doubt the fixture pileup has had some effect on that record and Eric Quill (who will be serving a sideline suspension Wednesday having earned a fifth yellow card last time out) and his coaching staff will need to manage his players' minutes accordingly. But, the same can be said for Pat Noonan's FCC, who also enter Wednesday's game short of rest having played in Atlanta on Sunday.
Lucho Returns: Wednesday's game will be a special homecoming for a certain FC Dallas playmaker. Designated Player Lucho Acosta will make his first return to TQL Stadium since joining Dallas from FC Cincinnati, the club where he earned 2023 MLS MVP honors. Acosta suited up for FCC for four successful seasons and became the club's all-time leading scorer while helping Noonan's side lift the 2023 MLS Supporters' Shield. The 30-year-old Argentine joined Dallas this offseason in a headline-grabbing trade worth $5 million plus incentives. Now the key man for FC Dallas, Acosta will visit TQL Stadium on the away side for the very first time and look to recreate the magic that made him a fan-favorite in the Queen City.
Cincy: FC Cincinnati holds an impressive 9-4-2 record and sits near the top of the Eastern Conference, something that has become a familiar sight over the last few seasons under head coach Pat Noonan. The club boasts a near-perfect 5-0-1 home record and haven't lost at TQL Stadium in regular season play since Oct. 5 of 2024. The danger man for the hosts is undeniably forward Kévin Denkey, the 24-year-old Togo international who's notched eight goals already in his debut MLS campaign. Wednesday's match will be FC Dallas' first-ever trip to TQL Stadium and just the third league meeting between the two sides since Cincinnati joined MLS in 2019.
