STORY LINES

  • Building on a Win: FC Dallas returns to Toyota Stadium in good spirits following one of its best results of the 2023 season. The club earned a 3-1 comeback victory against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, ending a three-game winless run and vaulting it back into the playoff spots with six games remaining. The win was FCD's third road victory of the year and just the second time the team had scored three goals in a game. The last time Dallas had put three past an opponent was way back in Match Week 2 on March 5 against the LA Galaxy. Considering those milestones, FCD and coach Nico Estévez have plenty to build on with another tough outing against third-place Columbus Crew this Saturday.
  • Ferreira back in the Goals: Wednesday's match saw another positive development for Dallas. Leading scorer Jesús Ferreira scored his first MLS goals since early June with a second-half brace to down Real Salt Lake. While four months without a league goal looks like an exceedingly long time, there are a few caveats: Ferreira missed four games for USMNT duty, one game for the MLS All-Star game, there was a month-long break for Leagues Cup, and finally, Ferreira missed FCD's first two games out of the break due to illness. In reality, the 22-year-old actually only went three league games without scoring. Still, a three-game drought is a long times for the Jesús Ferreiras of the world and coach Estévez will be delighted his star forward is back in the goals. Oh, and Ferreira's brace on Wednesday moved him past club legend Kenny Cooper for second-most goals in FCD history with 48. Ferreira will hope to reach a half century with a couple more goals against the Crew this Saturday.
  • Against Columbus: The Columbus Crew is an unfamiliar opponent at this point. The last time Dallas and Columbus faced off was back in 2020 when FCD was coached by Luchi Gonzalez and Columbus by Caleb Porter. Things have changed significantly for both clubs since then. Only one player from Dallas' starting lineup that day is still with the club: goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer. Dallas is now coached by Nico Estévez, of course, and the Crew appointed former Montreal coach Wilfried Nancy to lead them ahead of the 2023 season. Plus, Columbus plays in a new stadium now. A lot can change in three years. Historically, though, the Crew have proved a difficult opponent for FCD. They're one of the few teams Dallas has a losing record against (17-20-12 all-time) and FCD's last win was way back in 2015. If Estévez and co. can change that Saturday, Dallas will take a big step toward playoff qualification.
