Story Lines
Six-Pointer: Saturday's match carries a lot of weight in terms of the Western Conference playoff race. After beating Austin FC last Saturday, FC Dallas resides in 11th place with 34 points - just one point below the San Jose Earthquakes in 9th place, the final spot for the play-in game. Also fighting to remain in the play-in game places are the Colorado Rapids in 8th place with 39 points. The Rapids are also in contention for the MLS Cup Playoffs proper but would need to leapfrog Austin FC, who have two more points with one fewer game played, in 7th place. With both Dallas and Colorado desperate for points and potentially fighting for the same play-in game places, Saturday's match at Toyota Stadium is essentially worth six points to whichever side is able to come out on top.
Musa: Petar Musa continues to be the main man for FC Dallas. The Croatian forward scored the opening goal against Austin last Saturday just 91 seconds into the match (the sixth fastest goal in the club history), bringing his tally to 15 on the season. Having scored 16 last season, Musa has set an all-time FCD record for the most goals over a two-season span. What's more, the 27-year-old has found his best form of the year during the business end of the campaign. Musa has registered eight goals and two assists over the last eight games and has been the main force behind Dallas' late-season renaissance. With five games remaining in the regular season, Musa has a real opportunity to break the club's all-time single season scoring record of 18 jointly held by Jason Kreis (1999), Kenny Cooper (2008) and Jesús Ferreira (2022). Musa will have a chance to add to his tally this Saturday against a Colorado defense that's conceded eight goals in its last three games.
Colorado: The Rapids arrive at Toyota Stadium in 8th place in the West on 39 points and a 11-13-6 record. Chris Armas' team is coming off a dramatic 2-1 home victory over the Houston Dynamo that included a 96th-minute game-winner to hand the Rapids a third win from their last five games. While results have been promising, Colorado's defense has left something to be desired having conceded eight goals in their last three games with their last shutout coming back in early July. If FC Dallas can stifle the Rapids' attack, Eric Quill's team has a great chance of claiming all three points this Saturday night.
