Story Lines

Turned the Page: FC Dallas enjoyed a strong start to life without Desiganted Player Lucho Acosta following his transfer to Brazilian side Fluminense. The club earned a fairly comfortable 2-0 win over the Portland Timbers, a game that included a new club captain and new goal scorer. Midfield veteran Ramiro wore the captain's armband in place of the injured Maarten Paes while defender Lalas Abubaker nodded home his first FCD goal to seal the 2-0 victory. The match also featured yet another goal for forward Petar Musa, who pounced on a mistake from Portland goalkeeper Maxime Crepéau to score his sixth goal in the last four games - bringing his season tally to 13. Now with two wins from the their last three games, Dallas is finding form at exactly the right time with a crucial match against Texas rivals Austin FC on the horizon.

Copa Tejas: Saturday's match in Austin could decide the winner of Copa Tejas, the fan-driven competition between the three Texas MLS teams. The Houston Dynamo currently lead the standings with seven points from four games with Dallas in second (3 points from 2 games) and Austin bringing up the rear (1 point from 2 games). To retain the Copa Tejas title, Dallas will need to win in Austin on Saturday and win again when ATX visits Frisco next month. If Dallas fails to win on Saturday (or on Sept. 13), the Dynamo will claim their very first Copa Tejas crown.

Nico's Austin: There's always a lot on the line when FC Dallas and Austin FC meet on the field. This year, though, there's an extra wrinkle. Saturday's game will be the first meeting as foes between FCD and former head coach Nico Estévez, who took over as Austin boss during the offseason. Through 24 games, Estévez has led Austin to seventh place in the West with a 9-8-7 record (including a 4-2-6 record at Q2 Stadium). Many of Austin's games have been low scoring affairs as the club has conceded just 28 goals, the fewest in the West, but are also averaging less than a goal a game having scored just 23 in 24 outings. Like Dallas, Austin are rounding into form having secured four wins from their last seven games and are unbeaten in their last four.

Midfielder Sebastian Lletget:

“I've known Nico for many years. He’s obviously a great coach and we’re well aware of what he wants to do, or at least have an idea. We were looking at video, analyzing everything we can and in preparation for this game and I think we're ready.

"It’s a huge game, there’s no surprise there. We’re well aware of how important it is, it’s a clássico for Texas. This is huge for the club, for our hearts, for the integrity of this club. Even if it's a regular season game, we know how important this is."

Forward Petar Musa:

"I worked with Nico when I came here. It wasn’t that long but it was good, he's a nice guy. But now when we are on the field, we are enemies. When I play against his team I am very motivated, as always, every game I want to win. I'm looking forward for this game.

I have the same goals, I try to win every single game, help the team, score goals. Of course, this a little bit different because it's our rival. We’ve prepared every day and we want to go there and show our quality."
