FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas Reserves (4-3-0, 12 points) defeated the Houston Dynamo Reserves (4-4-0, 12 points) by a score of 2-0 Sunday morning on the adidas Field at Pizza Hut Park.

FC Dallas’ first goal came from Home Grown player
Ruben Luna
, who netted his team-high fourth Reserve League goal of the season in the 74th minute. Dallas added an insurance goal in the 85th minute when Dynamo forward Will Bruin accidently headed a ball into his own net on an FC Dallas corner kick.

Houston had the better of the ball and nearly scored in the fifth minute. On the play, a cross from JeVaughn Watson on the right flank nearly beat FC Dallas goalkeeper
Chris Seitz
to the back post. Seitz did well to keep the ball out, tipping the shot around the post before the ball was collected and centered for Jason Garey, who struck a hard shot over the bar.

Limited mostly to counterattacks, FC Dallas’
Moises Hernandez
played an outlet pass to
Maykel Galindo
in the 29th minute. Galindo held off the first defender before breaking on the pass. He was in on goal alone before Houston center back Jermaine Taylor caught him from behind at the same time Houston goalkeeper Tyler Deric made a sliding attempt on the ball. The trio of players tumbled to the ground inside the area, but no whistle came from center official Fernando Galvan.

A good passing sequence by the Dynamo led to a ball in and a header, shot directly at Seitz by Cam Weaver in the 39th minute. Unfortunately for the Dynamo, the counterattack started by Seitz’s long line drive punt put the Houston defense under pressure.
Andrew Wiedeman
collected the pass in stride on Dallas' right side, sending a pass to the back post for a wide open Galindo, but the pass was intercepted by a diving save from Deric.

Houston also began the second half on the attack. Garey collected a loose ball at the top right corner of the area, beat two defenders and got a shot off that was headed to the far side netting before being blocked by a defender. Knocked out for a corner kick, the play was the beginning of several minutes of sustained pressure by the Dynamo.

Dallas would dodge two more bullets, a well struck shot that just missed the crossbar from Garey in the 56th minute, and a goalmouth scramble that required a sliding save from substitute goalkeeper Josh Lambo in the 58th before the pressure subsided.

FC Dallas had its first chance of the second half in the 60th minute, when a buildup down the left flank started by Luna found
Jonathan Top
on the back post. Top’s cutting pass was blocked off, but fell to the feet of
Jeremy Hall
, who was making a late run. Hall sidestepped several defenders before having the ball cleared away by Deric inside the area.

Bruin had one final chance to give the Dynamo a lead in the 68th minute. The forward held off his defender at the top left corner of the area before chipping a ball for himself into space. Bruin looked to be through on goal, only to have Lambo come off his line to take a sure goal off the foot of the forward.

FC Dallas capitalized in the 74th minute on another chance that began with a punt. Lambo collected the ball in the area and sent a long line drive punt up the field to Luna. A Dynamo defender misjudged the ball near midfield, allowing the ball to skip free into open space. Luna caught up to the pass near the penalty mark, knocking a sliding shot into the back of the net just before colliding with Deric.

Dallas’ second goal came in the 85th minute when FC Dallas Academy player Jia Jie Zhuang played a ball into space for Luna near the left corner flag. The subsequent fight for the ball earned Dallas a corner kick. Home Grown player
Bryan Leyva
opted to take the kick, lobbing a high cross to the back post where several players came together to win the ball. Bruin rose above the pack, but unfortunately for the forward, the header redirected into his own net.
