Recap: FCD U-16s 0, Sockers FC 1

Playoffs Day Five

FRISCO, Texas – The FC Dallas U-16s lost to Sockers FC of Chicago 1-0 in the team’s third and final USSDA Playoff match Tuesday at Field 13 of Pizza Hut Park. Both teams entered the game winless in group play.

FC Dallas forward Erick Chapa started for the first time of the Playoffs and pressured the SFC defense in the first half. FCD had a number of scoring opportunities against Sockers, whom only allowed 14 regular-season goals in 23 matches, but couldn’t turn chances into goals.

Sockers FC took the lead in the 24th minute when midfielder Michael Chang sent the ball past FCD goalkeeper Jose Gonzalez low to the near post.

Leading FC Dallas goal-scorers Bobby Edet and Victor Portillo came off the bench to start the second half. Like Chapa, Edet created a number of chances to knot the score. In the 52nd minute, Edet slipped past the Sockers defense into the box and sent a shot towards the goal, but hit the near post.

Dallas continued to pressure, but couldn’t get the ball past the Sockers FC goalkeeper and Chang’s goal stood as the game-winner.
