Phelipe Called Up to Brazil’s Olympic Roster for International Friendlies

FC Dallas players have now earned eight UnitedHealthcare International Call-ups this year

Frisco, Texas (October 23, 2020) – FC Dallas goalkeeper Phelipe Megiolaro has been called up to Brazil’s U-23 National Team by André Jardine for international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Egypt in preparation for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Both matches will be played in in Saudi Arabia, on the November 13 and 16, respectively.


Brazil’s U-23 team has already qualified for the Olympics that will be held in 2021 after being delayed this year due to COVID-19. Brazil will look to defend its gold medal after winning in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Saudi Arabia and Egypt have also qualified for the Olympics.


Megiolaro, 21, joined FC Dallas on loan from Grêmio on August 18 and has been part of the 20-man roster eight times this season. Megiolaro signed his first professional contract with Grêmio on December 5, 2018 after rising through its youth system and made his first team debut in a 2-1 loss against Fortaleza in October 2019.


Megiolaro has yet to make his senior team debut for the Brazil National Team but was on the bench for international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Argentina in 2018 and Qatar on June 5, 2019. He represented Brazil in the 2017 Toulon Tournament and started in goal for Brazil’s U-20 National Team in the 2019 South American U-20 Championship.
