Paxton Pomykal Knee Injury Unfortunate Timing for the Young Professional

Pomykal Unfortunate Timing

FRISCO - FC Dallas announced today that Homegrown midfielder Paxton Pomykal will miss the next 4-6 weeks after suffering a slight tear in his left meniscus during training on Wednesday night. The 17-year-old underwent successful surgery on Thursday afternoon to repair the injury.

It’s been a frustrating few weeks for Pomykal, who returned to training last week from a high-ankle sprain in his right leg suffered with the U.S. U-19s in Slovakia last month.

"We were able to get Paxton back healthy from his right ankle sprain for five consistent days of training before Wednesday, which was rewarding to see," Head Athletic Trainer Skylar Richards said. “These two injuries are unrelated and it will be important to get him fully recovered and back on the field for the rest of the season."

Pomykal had a flare up in the same left knee last November, from which he was able to recover and begin the 2017 season fully healthy.

The new injury is unfortunate timing for the Academy product who started back-to-back matches for the first team in March before winning the Dallas Cup Gordon Jago Super Group in April with the U-18s, as part of the first MLS Academy team to take the title.
