Midfielder Carlos Gruezo Joins Bundesliga Side FC Augsburg

Ecuador native returns to Bundesliga after transferring to FC Dallas from VfB Stuttgart in 2016

FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas announced today the transfer of midfielder Carlos Gruezo to Bundesliga side FC Augsburg. Per team policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

Gruezo, 24, appeared in 114 matches across all competitions for FC Dallas since joining the club in 2016, scoring five goals and tallying seven assists. Gruezo scored one goal in nine appearances in 2019, scoring the third-fastest goal in franchise history in just 45 seconds on March 30 against Real Salt Lake.


Gruezo helped FC Dallas win the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and Supporters’ Shield, as well as help Dallas advance to the 2016-2017 Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals after scoring his first FC Dallas goal in a 5-2 group stage win against Guatemala’s Suchitepéquez.


Gruezo returns to the Bundesliga after signing a four-year contract with VfB Stuttgart in 2014. He became the first Ecuadorian player to score in the Bundesliga after scoring in a 4-1 victory over Freiburg on November 28, 2014.


FC Augsburg is based in Augsburg, Bavaria and has competed in the Bundesliga since the end of the 2010-2011 season.
