Matt Hedges’ game-winning header puts FC Dallas atop the Western Conference

VANCOUVER - FC Dallas defeats Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 Sunday night at BC Place, courtesy of a late goal from captain Matt Hedges.
First Half:
- 15’ – After beating his defender near the end-line, Michael Barrios finds Cristian Colmán at the edge of the six-yard box, but his shot is blocked in front of the keeper.
- 24’ – Whitecaps’ midfielder Cristian Techera stings the crossbar with shot after rounding Matt Hedges with a clever turn in the box.
- 33’ – Jesse Gonzalez saves a shot from Alphonso Davies after it deflected through Marquinhos Pedroso’s legs.
- 42’ – Santiago Mosquera scores his fourth of the year on a glancing header from a dangerous Maxi Urruti free kick.
- 43’ – FC Dallas nearly scores two goals in as many minutes, but Barrios’ low cross is just out of the reach of Colmán.
Second Half:
- 53’ – Barrios sees his low shot saved by the feet of Stefan Marinovic after he’d been put through on goal by Mosquera.
- 66’ – Kei Kamara levels the game with a powerful downward header from an Alphonso Davies cross, leaping above Reto Ziegler to make contact.
- 68’ – Barrios nearly puts Dallas back on top after Urruti’s through-ball beats the Vancouver defense, but his shot is directly at Stefan Marinovic.
- 78’ – Jordon Mutch receives the ball in a dangerous position inside Dallas’ box, but his cutback is blocked by Matt Hedges.
- 87’ – FC Dallas captain Matt Hedges scores a go-ahead header off a Maxi Urruti corner that was flicked towards the back-post by Michael Barrios.
