FC Dallas earned a free kick on the left flank after a sustained attack in the fifth minute. Mauro Diaz lobbed a dangerous ball into the area where Montreal defender Rudy Camacho rose above the pack to win a header. Unfortunately for the Impact, Camacho’s header deflected off teammate Matteo Mancosu and looped backwards over goalkeeper Evan Bush into in the back of the net to give FC Dallas a 1-0 lead.

Jesse Gonzalez, making his 50th regular-season start, came up with a huge save to his right side to deny Montreal’s Ken Krolicki of a goal in the 16th minute.

Seconds later, Maxi Urruti stepped in to receive a pass from Michael Barrios and was clipped by Camacho just inside the top right corner of the box. Referee Nima Saghafi pointed to the spot and Diaz opted to take the penalty kick. Dallas’ No. 10 beat Bush low to his right side, just inside the post, to give FCD a 2-0 lead.

FC Dallas nearly went ahead by three goals in the 54th minute on a play that began with an odd man rush. Barrios got the ball to Roland Lamah, who faked a shot before returning the pass to Barrios. The Colombian struck the ball with his first touch, hammering a shot towards goal, but Bush got down to his left side to push the chance away. The rebound fell to Maxi Urruti, who tried to beat Bush to the near post, but a Montreal defender stepped in to send the shot out for a corner kick.
