Kellyn Acosta on WCQ Loss: "We Failed Ourselves, Failed the Team, Failed Our Country"

FC Dallas midfielder Kellyn Acosta is just as sick as you are about the U.S. Men’s National Teamnot qualifying for the 2018 World Cup. Check that. It hits him harder.

“We failed ourselves, failed the team, failed our country,” the 22-year old Plano native told me on Friday.

It’s obvious the disappointment of not qualifying for the World Cup still weighs on Acosta. The best thing for the young player right now? Getting back on the field. For him that means focusing on FC Dallas’ huge match against the Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday night.

“Every game is a must-win starting this weekend in Seattle,” he said.

“We’ve had a strong week of training. We‘ve been battling competing and doing everything we can to have that competitive edge.”

Here’s hoping Acosta channels that disappointment from the U.S. men’s result into an inspired performance at CenturyLink Field on Sunday.
