Kellyn Acosta, Maynor Figueroa Go Full 90 in 1-1 Draw Between US Men's National Team and Honduras

USA vs Honduras

FRISCO - FC Dallas' Kellyn Acosta and Maynor Figueroa went the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw between their respective U.S. Men's National Team and the Honduras National Team in World Cup Qualifying on Tuesday evening at Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in Honduras.

It was a result the U.S. desperately needed to control their own fate in the CONCACAF Hexagonal.

After Honduras took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute with a curling shot from Houston Dynamo's Romell Quioto that deflected in off the post, the U.S. looked poised to suffer a second defeat in as many tries this International window until the 85th minute. Acosta found himself standing over a free kick 25 yards from goal, and sent a shot towards the upper right corner, forcing a diving save from Luis Lopez. The ball bounced around inside the 18 for frantic seconds before Bobby Wood would connect for the equalizer as Lopez was still out of position from Acosta's kick.

The U.S. and Honduras remain tied for 3rd and 4th place in the region with nine points a piece and two games remaining in the round. A win for either team would've put them in the driver's seat heading into October's matches. The top three finishers earn automatic bids to next year's World Cup in Russia, while the fourth place finisher heads to a one-game playoff for a spot in the tournament.
