FRISCO – Saturday’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup round of 16 between FC Dallas and Sporting Kansas City will feature the last two winners of the tournament and will mark the second consecutive year the two clubs play each other in the tournament. Sporting KC knocked out FCD 3-0 in overtime in the quarterfinals last year, en route to their third title in six years.
FC Dallas will look for redemption on Saturday night in Kansas City.

Both teams have won one match to get to this round. FC Dallas defeated San Antonio FC 1-0 on the road in the fourth round, thanks to a Tesho Akindele goal early in the second half.
The goal was Akindele’s first for FCD in 2018.

Sporting KC played Real Salt Lake in one of the four matchups of the fourth round that had two MLS-sides play against each other. KC won the match 2-0 with two second half goals. Johnny Russell and Kharlton Belmar both had a goal and an assist.
Both clubs are coming off points in their last game’s. FC Dallas defeated the Montreal Impact 2-0 at home on Saturday and Sporting KC drew Portland 0-0 on the road.
The two will match-up on June 16 at 8 p.m. for a chance to make it to the Open Cup Quarterfinals.
