FRISCO - It was a light Tuesday in terms of the number of games for FC Dallas Youth teams, but the U-16s earned one of the biggest wins of the week over Spanish-giant Real Madrid.
With both teams officially eliminated from Semifinal contention, Tuesday night was all about bragging rights. After a back-and-forth first half, FCD was inches away from taking the lead in the 32nd minute as Brayan Padilla chipped a ball into the box for Adrian Munoz, whose chance was quickly blocked, but right to the foot of Edwin Cerillo at point-blank range. Cerillo fired a quick shot stopped by the Real Madrid keeper, and then found his own rebound he threw back at goal - only to send it just inches wide of the far post. WATCH
In the second half, Dallas keeper Michael Collodi found himself staring down the wrong end of a Real Madrid break in the 46th minute, but came decisively off his line and made a stop with his left leg to keep a 0-0 game in the final half hour. WATCH
The match would remain deadlocked until the when U-16 leading scorer Brayan Padilla received a short cross from sub Johan Gomez along the top of the box and took on two Real Madrid defenders solo. He cut to the right to lose the first defender, fired a shot blocked by the diving second, dug his own rebound out from under the center back and sent a shot back across his body into the far corner before celebrating with the several hundred fans in attendance. Dallas, by virtue of the win, earned a spot in the four-team 5th Place bracket with Malaga, LA Galaxy and Estudiantes de la Plata. They'll play Malaga on Thursday at 3:30 CT on Toyota Soccer Center Field 4.
