FCD started the weekend against Southwest division foe Tulsa Fortuna at Dr. Pink Stadium last Friday. Behind three first half goals, Dallas asserted its dominance early in the game and Fortuna couldn’t keep up. FCD only gave up one goal in the second half, running away with a 5-1 win in front of the home crowd.

Head coach Tyler Powell credited his players and staff for building up so much momentum in the thick of the season.

“It’s the players and the staff,” Powell said. “We have five assistant coaches, and they all do a really good job for us. The players are all used to playing in different environments, and it usually takes us a little bit to get going. But once we do, they start finding a rhythm. We haven’t had the same starting lineup the whole season, but we have had some mainstays in the back. The leadership from those players really helped us.”

Dallas needed just one more win to clinch a playoff berth following the victory over Tulsa, and it had the opportunity to do so against Oklahoma City FC. FCD once again asserted its dominance but this time in the second half.

After a 0-0 score heading into halftime, FCD came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders. The team scored six goals in the second half while keeping a clean sheet en route to its sixth-straight victory.

“The expectation is always going to be to win, but none of these games are going to be easy,” Powell said. “We’ve gotten onto a little bit of a roll, so the key is just to get out in front early. One advantage that we do have is the heat. We play in it, train in it, the players are from the Dallas area. They’re used to it every day.”
