FRISCO, TX (Sept. 13, 2020) – FC Dallas has reached a transfer agreement with FC Viktoria Plzeň for striker Zdeněk Ondrášek, the club announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed. “We have loved having Kobra here at FC Dallas,” said FC Dallas President Dan Hunt.
“He was a big part of our run to the playoffs in 2019 and will always be a part of the FC Dallas family. We wish him the best with his future club and with the Czech National Team.”
“Family is number one. As long as it’s about family, everything goes aside,” said Ondrášek. “Things happened pretty quickly this year. I had to decide quickly, and I did decide. I put the family in front of soccer. I would like to thank everybody here: in the club, around the club, in the city.”
Ondrášek, 31, joined FC Dallas on December 18, 2018. He appeared in 25 FC Dallas matches across all competitions, recording nine goals and three assists. He made his MLS debut on March 23, 2019 vs. Colorado Rapids and scored his first FC Dallas goal in the 59th minute against Montreal Impact on August 17, 2019 to beginning Dallas’ comeback in the 3-3 draw. FC Dallas compiled a 4-0-3 record in matches Ondrášek scored.
Ondrášek, nicknamed “The Kobra”, earned two call-ups to Czech Republic National Team while with the club. He made his debut for the senior team in the Euro 2020 qualifying match against England on October 11, 2019. Ondrášek was subbed on in the 65th minute of the match and scored his first international goal in the 85th minute to defeat England 2-1, ending England’s 43-game unbeaten run in Euro qualifying play. He marked his first two international assists in a friendly match against North Ireland October 14 and earned his first start for the Czech team on November 17 vs. Bulgaria.
FC Viktoria Plzeň is based in Plzeň, Czech Republic and competes in the Czech First League. The club has won five league titles, one Czech Cup title and two Czech Supercup titles.
