FC Dallas signs Paxton Pomykal to New Contract

2019 MLS All-Star Commissioner’s Pick signs four-year deal

FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas Homegrown Paxton Pomykal has agreed to terms on a new, four-year contract with an option for the 2024 season, the club announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

“I’m thrilled for Paxton,” said FC Dallas President Dan Hunt. “I’m thrilled for somebody who committed to this club. I’m thrilled for somebody who wears the number 19, which was Bobby Rhine’s number. He embodies what Bobby was for this club. I look forward to many more great years with him as he grows and hopefully he can win championships here.”

Pomykal, 19, has played an important role in helping FC Dallas clinch the seventh seed in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs. In his most productive MLS season thus far, Pomykal scored his first professional brace and recorded five assists in 25 MLS appearances in 2019.  He was selected as the Commissioner’s Pick for the 2019 MLS All-Star Game and had been previously selected twice for the MLS Homegrown Game (2017, 2018).

“I’m really happy with my decision,” said Pomykal. “I’ve had a great year, but at the same time I feel like there is better soccer to be played. I’m really happy for this opportunity.”

After captaining the U.S. Under-20 National Team to the FIFA U-20 World Cup quarterfinals in Poland, Pomykal earned his first senior team call-up and made his U.S. Men’s National team debut in the 85th minute against Uruguay on September 11.

“We’ve seen Paxton take big steps as a player and teammate this season,” said FC Dallas head coach Luchi Gonzalez. “Our coaching staff is looking forward to seeing his continued development, maturation and potential these next few years.”

In 2017, while with the Academy, Pomykal helped the FC Dallas U-18 Academy team win the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup’s Gordon Jago Super Group. He was also named to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s Central Conference Starting XI after helping the FC Dallas Academy claim both the U-16 and U-18 National Championships.
