FC Dallas players react to Matt Hedges winning 2016 MLS Defender of the Year

Hedges walkout

Any time a player wins an individual award, there are many teammates that factor into it and as FC Dallas parted ways for the offseason, we caught up with a few of the guys to get their reaction to Matt Hedges winning Defender of the Year

RYAN HOLLINGSHEAD:

I think it speaks to how good of a player he is and how solid he’s been back there for us. He’s been so consistent on the back line and for us as a team you’re always excited to have a guy represent you in that way because he’s really representing four guys on that back line and a goalkeeper having an amazing year too so we’re all excited about that award.

ATIBA HARRIS:

That’s great news I think he’s been working really hard in the last few years in the back for us and I think he deserves a chance in the national team in my opinion so I’m really happy for him. Hopefully he can keep building on it, get that call up and also cement a place in the national team.

CHRIS SEITZ:

That’s awesome. He’s put the work in and been a constant force back us for many years. “Obviously when your team does well and the spotlight is on, big players shine and he had a heck of a year. Very well deserved and I think it’s a testament to our defensive philosophy and the guys around him have helped a lot but he’s been a constant leader back there. If anyone deserves it, it’s him.

VICTOR ULLOA:

It’s really cool. It’s a great acknowledgement and he puts in the work day in and day out since preseason and he deserves it. He was close last year and I thought he deserved it so I’m happy for him.
