FRISCO, Texas – Saturday afternoon's annual FC Dallas Meet and Greet was a chance for the organization and players to give back to their dedicated fans.
The annual event at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco was open to invited season ticket holders and provided an opportunity to get autographs, pictures, and interact intimately with their favorite athletes. Fans also got to sample new food from stadium caterer Legends Hospitality Management.
“For me, I grew up in the UK with soccer,” said Adrian Denvir, who attended the event with his nine-year-old son Aenghus. “For him to grow up in the US as a soccer player, I think it’s really important for him to have heroes. This is a really good opportunity for him to come and meet his heroes.”
Many fans enjoyed the opportunity to litter their soccer balls and jerseys with as many autographs as possible. Others got to snap photos with players and take some take the time to learn more about the person behind the jersey.
“It’s like family,” said Heather Scruggs, who attended with her daughter MaryParker. “You can actually talk to your favorite player! You get to visit with the players, get to know them, and have conversation.”
But the enthusiasm is hardly one-sided. The players realize the dedication and importance of their fans, particularly those that are committed for the entire season.
“It’s always good to get to know your season ticket holders,” said defender Zach Loyd. “They come and support you, no matter how things are going. And it’s good to get involved with your community and share your life with the fans.”
All-Star Brek Shea, who was identified by many as their favorite player, could have been incredibly bothered by the crowds surrounding him on Saturday. Instead, he made sure to take the time to interact with everyone waiting.
“You want to try and bring the fans coming back every game, so you want to have the chance to speak to them and let them know that you appreciate them,” said Shea. “The fans get to meet us, which makes them want to support us more, which we love.”
HomeGrown player Victor Ulloa, a former member of the FC Dallas Academy, believes the attention and experience benefits not only the fans, but the players as well.
“It’s awesome to see so many fans come out to see and support the team,” said Victor Ulloa, a signee from the FC Dallas Academy. “It motivates us to play even harder.”
