CASA GRANDE, Arizona -- FC Dallas' first team and reserves both scored shutout victories at Grande Sports World in Casa Grande, Arizona on Monday evening. The first team got things started with a 4-0 win over the New York Red Bulls reserve squad at 5 p.m. CT. The FC Dallas reserves followed suit with a 3-0 victory over FC Edmonton of the North American Soccer League in a match that began at 5 p.m. CT.
First Team vs. New York Red Bull Reserves
FC Dallas netted the first goal of the day in the 17th minute when David Ferreira held the ball up at midfield to give right midfielder Marvin Chavez time to make a run in behind his defender. With two Red Bull defenders on his back, Ferreira delivered a precise ball to the feet of Chavez, who walked in alone on Red Bull goalkeeper Alex Horwath and finished low to the back post.
Following halftime, Head Coach Schellas Hyndman brought Ricardo Villar on for Eric Alexander in central midfield and Maykel Galindo for Kevin Gall up front. The move would pay off later in the match, but not before a stroke of good fortune saw a Red Bull clearance attempt ricochet off referee Silvio Petrescu's heel. The ball fell to the feet of Chavez, who knocked a shot by Horwath for a two-goal lead in the 53rd minute.
The best opportunity for the Red Bull reserves came shortly after, in the 55th minute. On the play, center back George John chopped down Red Bull forward Corey Hertzog to avoid giving up a breakaway. Midfielder John Rooney took the kick, cracking a line-drive at goalkeeper Kevin Hartman from the top of the area. Screened by the wall, Hartman made an impressive kick-save off a well-struck ball from 19 yards out.
Just two minutes later, FC Dallas struck for their third goal of the evening. A prolonged FC Dallas attack saw the ball pushed deep inside Red Bull territory only to be knocked away inside the six-yard box. Quick to defend, pressure from Villar forced a turnover. Upon winning the ball back, Villar tapped a short pass to Galindo, who hammered a ball to the near post from close range for a 3-0 lead in the 57th minute.
Dallas' fourth goal came on the counter-attack. Ferreira held the ball up again in the center of the park before sending a through ball forward for Galindo. Galindo side-stepped the goalkeeper and sent a lateral ball for Eric Avila to finish off.

FC Dallas Reserves vs. FC Edmonton
On an adjacent field, FC Dallas' reserves got scoring from Ruben Luna, Andrew Wiedeman and Milton Rodriguez to cruise to a 3-0 victory over FC Edmonton.
FC Dallas' first goal came in just the third minute. Ricardo Villar was back in action, making his first (consecutive) appearances of the season since suffering an injury early in preseason. The experienced playmaker took over the position usually patrolled by David Ferreira in Hyndman's 4-1-4-1. In similar fashion to the first team's goal against New York, Villar held the ball in central midfield before playing a long pass on the floor to Luna. After receiving the pass, Luna stared down FC Edmonton goalkeeper Rein Boart before finishing calmly to the back post.
The reserves took a two-goal lead in the 24th minute on a smart goal by Wiedeman, who tracked down a long ball off the foot of Charlie Campbell and intercepted a header intended for Boart. On the play, an FC Edmonton defender attempted to head the ball back to his goalkeeper, but the high pressure from Wiedeman caused the center back to mis-hit the ball. Before the ball could hit the ground, Wiedeman struck it on the volley, driving a shot past the goalkeeper.
Both sides made wholesale changes at the half. It took a short period of time for the players to acclimate with their new teammates, save Rodriguez, who whistled a shot from distance off the inside of the far post in the 55th minute. Five minutes later, Bryan Leyva picked Rodriguez out with a through ball and the Colombian side-stepped the goalkeeper before sending the final goal of the day, and of FC Dallas' Arizona trip, into the back of the net.
