FC Dallas Academy Team Competes in Liga MX Tournament

U-16 Academy Finals

As the FC Dallas academy system continues to grow and excel, players from FC Dallas' academy teams have been competing this week in Liga MX's Sub Internacional tournament in Mexico City, Mexico.

So far, the team is 2-0-4 on the tournament with wins over Pumas' youth squad and San Jose Earthquakes' youth squad. The team currently has six points and sits in second place of Group B, which is made up of MLS academy teams.

The tournament takes the top finishers in the MLS and Liga MX groups and has them face off in the final at historic Azteca Stadium. While FC Dallas can at-best finish as the second-best MLS side, the team's win over Pumas is the only victory for an MLS team over a Liga MX team in the tournament.

Later today, FC Dallas will take on Philadelphia Union, who are in third place in the group with four points. The squad is currently made up of a mix of U-16 and U-18 players as the teams are in transition from the end of one season to the start of another.

Coming off of USSDA National Championships for the U-16s and U-18s, the coveted tournament serves as further experience for academy players and the chance to compete against some of North America's brightest soccer players.
