Professional athletes are different from you and me. While most of us struggle to pick up a new sport, true athletes seem to dominate one sport while excelling at another one almost effortlessly.
That is the case with FC Dallas' Maxi Urruti. You've seen him showcase his toxophilite skills (yes, toxophilite) after he scores a goal. So we decided to see just how good he was at the real thing - shooting a bow and arrow.

Maxi joined me at Texas Archery Academy in Plano. USA Archery level 2 Instructor, and HUGE FC Dallas fan, Paul Durham took Maxi from novice to pretty darn good in just a few hours.
Like anyone picking up a sport for the first time, Maxi shot a few bows that completely missed the mark. Once Paul coached him through the process, Maxi was popping balloons and hitting bullseyes like someone who had been doing this for years.
The key, I think, is that Maxi, and other pro athletes like him, not only have natural talent but he also takes coaching and instruction well. Maxi implemented what Paul said beautifully, angling his body, pulling his arm or shooting with precision.
Maxi was all in. FC Dallas photographer Aaron Griffin and I were done shooting our story but Maxi and his wife stayed to get further instruction from Paul. Something tells me that instruction worked. Since we shot the story, Maxi scored two goals the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Championship Match and a goal in FC Dallas' draw against New York City FC. His post-goal celebrations? Nothing but bullseyes.
