U-19s Earn Draw in Second Super Group Match

FC Dallas U19s found a tie after facing Red Bull Brasil U19s just 30 hours after their first match of the 2018 Dallas Cup Gordon Jago Super Group.

FC Dallas coming off a loss against Arsenals U-19 would be starting some of the same players that played a full 90 minutes the morning before. That was just one of several challenges that the FCD U-19s would face.

“We had challenges with the wind, the game was really a game of two halves. I’m proud of the way that we fought, I think we can play a little bit better but we are still mathematically not out of it,” said head coach Chris Hayden. “I know the boys were pushing for a win, we were pushing for a result even at the end but a tie does not put us out.”

FC Dallas was able to create several opportunities but were playing into the wind for the first half. In the 27th minute, Red Bull Brasil attack capitalized on their opportunity. FC Dallas Goalkeeper Carlos Avilez was able to stop that first shot on goal coming from the right winger but that quick rebound turned into an opportunity for Brasils left winger scoring the first one of the night.

As the night progressed and the second half began, FC Dallas had newcomer Ronaldo Damus on the field. Just three minutes into the game, Brayan Padilla was able to recover the ball. Padilla brought it up into the box on the right side of the pitch before an over the top pass to Ronaldo Damus. The newcomer was just in place to tap it in finalizing the opportunity and tying the game 1-1 for FC Dallas.

Things got heated as FC Dallas and Red Bull Brasil both wanting a win in order to move up in the group standings. In the 85th minute, Edwin Cerillo would be issued a red card for making contact with Red Bulls attacker leaving 10 men on the field.

FC Dallas game ended five minutes later with a tie 1-1 against Red Bulls Brasil. FCD will be facing los Gallos Blancos, Queretaro from Mexico in their third match on Wednesday, March 28 at MoneyGram Park.

Mathematically, FCD U-19s are still not out but would need to beat Queretaro and hope that Brasil loses to Arsenal. The only other option is if Red Bull and FCD win then there will be a three-way tie basing it off on goal differential.
