Cristian Colman Breaks Through with First MLS Goals in 2-1 Win over Montreal

MONTREAL - All it took was one for the flood gates to open for Cristian Colman

After a frustrating opening half of the season in which the offseason DP acquisition could not find his first MLS goal, the striker netted not one, but two (and realistically three) in FC Dallas’ 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact.

“It was a frustrating first half [of the season] because I kept working hard and the goals weren’t happening no matter what [I did],” he said. “It was a frustrating first half, but I’m so glad the goal opened up for me today and I got my goals and I’m ready for the second half. I’m going to work hard and try to get more goals.”

Colman began his year by scoring twice in CCL play, but after that it was seemingly bad luck after bad luck that the scoring dried up. Incredible blocks, numerous posts hit, spectacular saves - nothing was bouncing his way. The hope is that Saturday’s game is just the start.

“It’s important for Cristian to score. We have been waiting for this moment,” head coach Oscar Pareja said. “He is a kid who has been working hard trying to adapt to the league, trying to adapt to the culture of the group and all he has done is keep working. Today the game rewarded him and I’m very happy for him.”

And as for that possible hat trick?

“I hear that he scored another one in the first half [too],” Pareja said with a chuckle. “It could be his first hat trick in MLS and you can’t ask for more than that in a performance.”

“I think the ball got in - actually I’m sure the ball got in,” Colman added. “I’m happy with the two goals of course, I would be happier with three but that’s what it is. I’m going to keep working, working and working the whole week and continue to produce.”
