All-Star: Three Reasons to Vote for Kellyn Acosta

All-Star Vote Kellyn Acosta

There’s less than three weeks left to send eight FC Dallas players to the 2016 MLS All-Star Game in San Jose! The best in MLS will face legendary Premier League-side Arsenal and you have until July 4th to cast your vote for Kellyn Acosta, the 20-year-old midfielder making his mark on his hometown club. We thought we’d give you just a few reasons why Kellyn deserves your vote (as if you needed any). Head over to FCDallas.com/Vote to select your picks now!

For Club, For Country

A staple of the U-18 and U-20 U.S. Men’s National Team rosters during his first three years as a professional, Acosta became the first FC Dallas Academy product to receive a U.S. Men’s Senior National Team call-up earlier this year, spending two weeks in camp with the best American-born players in the world and starting two matches for Jurgen Klinsmann’s side. He bleeds red, white and blue, so why don’t you make him the first FCD Homegrown to earn an All-Star nod as well?

He Can Do It All

Acosta naturally plays as a defensive midfielder and has started seven games at the position in 2016 for Dallas, but you can put him just about anywhere on the field and find success. With the National Team, the Plano-native plays as an outside back, and twice this season with FCD he has played in an attacking mid and winger roles – filling in for Mauro Diaz and Michael Barrios (who also deserve your All-Star vote). Even in his first MLS start in 2013 he played three different positions – left back, right back and center midfield – due to injuries. You’ve got to love a true team player.

The Best Present

The All-Star Game takes place this year on July 28. Four days before that, on July 24, Acosta will celebrate his 21st (yes, just his 21st) birthday! He’ll also celebrate the fourth anniversary of signing his Homegrown deal on July 12! What better way to celebrate than being named to your first MLS All-Star Team? He was already named No. 14 on MLSSoccer.com’s annual 24 Under 24 list last season and with three years left to go, he’ll undoubtedly be climbing up the chart in the years to come. Just go ahead and make him an All-Star already
