Academy Update: FC Dallas travels to Florida

The FC Dallas U-18 and U-16 Academy teams traveled to Sarasota, Fla. to participate in the 2011 Developmental Academy Winter Showcase last weekend. The four day event consisted of three games for each team. Two FCD Pre-Academy players were able to travel with the U-16s and see time in the games.

The U-18s maintained their undefeated record, going 2-0-1 against Vancouver, Seattle, and Real Salt Lake. They are the only undefeated team remaining in their conference. The U-16s went 1-1-1 against the same opponents.

Player of the Week
Garcia continues to fill up the stat sheet, scoring four goals over three games last weekend. He was the only FC Dallas scorer in two of those games. The recent North Carolina commit now has 12 goals in 11 total games, leading the team in scoring and points.

Day 1
FC Dallas U-18s: 2
Vancouver Whitecaps: 2
The U-18s found themselves playing from behind in the 28th minute on a goal from Bryce Alderson. The score remained 1-0 until Caleb Clarke put the Whitecaps up 2-0 in the 54th minute. From that point forward, U-18 leading scorer Danny Garcia put the team on his back and scored goals in the 57th and 81st minutes to salvage a 2-2 tie. It's only the second draw for the U-18s in this undefeated season.

FC Dallas U-16s: 1
Vancouver Whitecaps: 1
The U-16s remained knotted at 0-0 until the 57th minute when both teams scored their only goals of the game. Brody Huitema scored for the Whitecaps while Jonathon Sanchez scored for FCD. It was Sanchez’s first goal of the season. Christian Ramirez, a Pre Academy ’97 player, was brought in as a sub in the 75th minute. He saw time in the other two games as well.

Day 2
FC Dallas U-18s: 3
Seattle Sounders: 2
Similar to the U-18s first game, Daniel Garcia started off the scoring for Dallas with a 48th minute goal that put FCD up 1-0. Just two minutes later, Bobby Edet scored his third goal of the year to increase the lead to 2-0. Dallas held the 2-0 advantage for just 16 minutes, when Dominique Dismuke tallied Seattle’s first goal. Ten minutes later, the game was tied at 2-2 when Dismuke scored his second goal of the game. The game remained tied until a minute into extra time, when Home Grown forward Jonathan Top scored the game-winning goal.

FC Dallas U-16s: 0
Seattle Sounders: 3
The U-16s fell into an early hole when Duncan McCormick scored Seattle’s first goal in the 21st minute. A 26th minute goal by Joseph Mancini and 37th minute goal by Miguel Medina put the game out of reach for FCD.

Day 3
FC Dallas U-18s: 1
Real Salt Lake-AZ: 0
The U -18s looked to wrap up an undefeated weekend against Real Salt Lake-Arizona, and once again Daniel Garcia provided the scoring that was needed. Garcia found the back of the net in the 54th minute to give FCD the 1-0 lead and the only goal scored in the game.

FC Dallas U-16s: 1
Real Salt Lake-AZ: 0
The U-16s looked to finish the weekend on a high note after taking a loss and a tie in their first two contests. The game remained scoreless until the first minute of stoppage time when Aaron Meyer scored the game winning goal. It was his fourth goal of the season. Martin Salas, an FCD Pre-Academy ’97 player, started for the U-16s.

Up Next: vs. Solar Chelsea SC
The U-18s, U-16s and U-14s will look to repeat their wins from the first games they played against Solar this season. The U-15s and U-13s both lost 1-0 in their first games against Solar this year.
